The Tinker’s Song
Lanndon Blackmon, known also as Soryn Vandalheart, shut down The Tinker’s Song, which hosted much of his fabulous WoT music. He gave me permission to make it available here! I’ve included the comments he provided for each song on his site before it closed. All songs are in MP3 format. Look for the download link next to the title. Check back often!
All music written by Lanndon Blackmon unless otherwise noted. What’s Written in a Letter and Brother to Battle, written by the AMG music group, used with permission. Lanndon merely did the arrangements and played accompaniment on them. Additional Keyboards during the intro Dream Sequence of The Wheel of Time by Robin Rowell.
Winternight | Download now!
I meant to release this one at Christmas time, but I was extremely lazy and the new site design just wasn’t coming along like I wanted it to. Here it is, one month late anyway. I wrote this with a Christmas feel to it, and that’s why I named it Winternight, a holiday in the world of the Wheel that reminds me alot of Christmas. Well, the Gift giving and whatnot. This was written with a bit of a melancholy feel to it. I did that on purpose, as if I wanted to say “This is the world on the night the Trollocs came to Emonds Field. The rest of the world may not know it, but it’s going to be awhile before Winternight is a pleasant holiday again.” I played the Keyboards, Guitar and Bass on this one. For the most part this song is loop free…with the exception of the drums and the tongue mallet at the end.
The Strike at Shayol Ghul | Download now!
Just something aggressive and heavy that I feel captures the intensity of the Strike at Shayol Ghul to end the War of Power.
The Way of the Leaf | Download now!
Well, since I call this site “The Tinker’s Song” (meaning the song the Tinker’s are searching for, not that I myself am a Tinker) I figured it was time I did something for the peaceful folk. This is it, about the idea that governs their reason for being.
What’s Written in a Letter | Download now!
Well I’ve been meaning to do it for a long time, and I’ve just never hit the right vibe. This one is about Moiraine, and how heroic she was at the docks in Cairhien. That particular scene, the one where Rand reads the letter she wrote for him, has always touched me. So the music needed to do the same thing. Moiraine’s Letter read by Christina Gayle
Asha’man | Download now!
Long overdue - a song for the Asha’man. When I first created this site I wanted to do a song to parallel “Song of Saidar”. That never materialized, but this one is a step in the right direction. Voice acting: Rand - Joshua Michael. Taim - Tom Ryan.
Brother to Battle (Gaidin) | Download now!
The word Gaidin means Brother to Battle in the Old Tongue. This is a dedication to all the Warders in the books…more importantly, to the coolest one, Lan Mandragoran. I would like to mention that I did *not* write this song. I merely paid for the right to accompany the music with my guitar and bass. If you are a Heroes of Might and Magic IV fan, you might recognize the loops used to create this song, as they are some of the same ones used to help create the HOMM IV soundtrack.
Twilight in a Stedding | Download now!
I tried to capture a feeling of peace and…well, refreshment. As though looking up at the moon and stars from inside a Stedding could make whatever was wrong with the world alright.
The Streets of Shadar Logoth | Download now!
I was trying to convey the feeling of dread one must feel walking through the streets of Shadar Logoth.
The Slopes of Shayol Ghul | Download now!
Just one interpretation of the Dark One’s power. And the gloom that is Shayol Ghul. This one seems to go from dark and gloomy to rage, then back to a dark calm of sorts…kind of the way I picture the Dark One acting.
Carai’an’Caldazar | Download now!
I’ve been wanting to create something for Mat since I started writing WoT inspired music, and I finally found a way to express it that I’m happy with. This song is about Mat and his merry band…the Band of the Red Hand. Voice acting: Mat - Joshua Michael
The Wheel of Time | Download now!
This is the first Wheel Of Time song I wrote. Hence the title. It also contains alot of quotes from the books. Voice acting: “I have a thousand strings tied to you, Kinslayer. Each one finer then silk and stronger then steel.” Ishamael - Lanndon Blackmon. “I deny you!” Rand - Joshua Michael. “Oh blood and bloody ashes!” Mat - Joshua Michael. “WOULD YOU BE NAEBLIS?” Dark One - Lanndon Blackmon. “He is born again, I feel him! The Dragon takes his first breath!” Gitara Moroso - Christina Gayle. “Loial, didn’t you say there wasn’t any wind in the Ways?” Rand - Lanndon Blackmon. “What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow” From the WoT Video Game. “The Grave is no bar to my call” Tom Ryan. “And it shall come to pass that what men made shall be shattered. The Shadow shall lie across the pattern of the age, and the Dark One…” Prophecy - Lanndon Blackmon. “The Banner is here, the weave of this moment is set. We’ve come to the horn, but we must follow the banner. And the Dragon.” Artur Hawkwing - Lanndon Blackmon. “Nothing like a little dance with Trollocs to ready us for sleep, right Aviendha?” Mat - Joshua Michael. “DEMANDRED…WOULD YOU UNLEASH THE BALEFIRE IN MY SERVICE?” The Dark One - Lanndon Blackmon. “Women shall weep and men quail as the nations of the earth are rent like rotting clothe. Neither shall anything stand nor abide. Yet one shall be born to face the Shadow.” Prophecy - Lanndon Blackmon. “He ravaged my home because it was my home. He brought Trollocs to kill my friends, because they were my friends. He’s a darkfriend, and a deadman.” Rand - Joshua Michael. “I am the storm.” Rand - Lanndon Blackmon. “ISAM!” Trollocs - Lanndon Blackmon. “LET THE LORD OF CHAOS RULE.” The Dark One - Lanndon Blackmon. “Shadowkiller” Wolves - Lanndon Blackmon. “Oh blood and bloody ashes!” Mat - Joshua Michael. “And there will be wailing and nashing of teeth at his rebirth. In sackcloth and ashes shall he clothe the people. And he shall break the world again by his coming, breaking apart all ties that bind. Like the unfettered dawn shall he blind us, and burn us.” Prophecy - Lanndon Blackmon. “Kneel and swear before the Lord Dragon.” Mazrim Taim - Tom Ryan. “Or you will be knelt” Mazrim Taim - Lanndon Blackmon. “I have won again Lews Therin.” The Dark One - Lanndon Blackmon. “Yet shall the Dragon Reborn confront the Shadow at the Last Battle, and his blood shall give us the Light. Let tears flow O Ye people of the world. Weep for your salvation.” Prophecy - Lanndon Blackmon.
The Wheel Turns | Download now!
Imagine Randland before the story starts. Just before to be precise. Everything was fairly peaceful. Logain had yet to start his march, the Seanchan were unheard of, and most importantly, the Dark One had yet to begin laying his hand on the world. I was trying to get the feeling that Jordan gave us at the beginning of The Eye Of The World. That Tolkienesque feel. The calm before the storm so to speak. The flute at the end of this one is supposed to represent the coming of the Dragon…and the coming of the storm.
Song of Saidar | Download now!
I tried to convey how it must feel to hold the female half of the One Power. Holding the True Source is supposed to be very addictive, and if I remember correctly a big part of that is how it makes you feel to hold it. Feelings of inner peace, strength, and joy all seem to be used to describe how it feels when you embrace the source.
Goldeneyes | Download now!
This one is written specifically for the Two Rivers battle with the Trollocs in TSR. I used the chapter name of my favorite scene to name this song, so don’t look to much into the significance of the title. There is none. Anyway, TSR is one of my favorite books in the series, and I felt the battle with the Trollocs in the Two River’s was definately worthy of some kind of soundtrack. Here it is.
Tarwin’s Gap | Download now!
I tried to capture the feeling of hopelessness the Shienaran’s must have felt as they marched off for the fight at Tarwin’s Gap in The Eye of the World. There was still quite a bit I wanted to do with this song, but I just couldn’t capture the feelings I felt it deserved, so I stopped it where I did and hopefully someday I’ll be able to grasp what it is I wanted to create and extend this one to its rightful length. Basically I was trying to capture the battle scenes from Braveheart with this one and nothing worked. It’s still a good song, and I like it, so I’m putting it up. I hope you enjoy it.
The Battle Ajah | Download now!
Ok, this is a bit of a departure for me. Having a musical background primarily in Heavy Metal and Rock, I recently (within the last year or so) started opening my ears to other forms of music. This song is Electronica, which really has nothing to do with a “Soundtrack” for the Wheel Of Time, but it has a lot of energy and that’s what I was going for when I decided a song needed to be written for the coolest of the Ajahs.
Callandor | Download now!
This is one of those “Soundtrack” type songs I want to feature so much here at The Tinker’s Song. This one is set as Rand walks into the heart of the Stone, walking towards that shining crystal sword hovering in the center. The sword that tells the world this isn’t your run of the mill everyday False Dragon that’s marching through your backyard with an army at his side. This is actually more mood music for the confrontation between Rand and Bel’al.
He Who Comes With the Dawn | Download now!
When Rand was first proclaimed the Car’a'carn it wasn’t because the Aiel believed all that Callandor business. Their prophecies said nothing about the Dragon Reborn. They proclaimed him because he spoke the truth about what he saw in Rhuidean. The Aiel were once a people that followed “The Way of the Leaf”. Which was something that went against everything they knew about themselves. Between having their warrior identity stripped, and the shame of what they once were…Tinkers or “The Lost Ones”…”The Bleakness” swept through them, and threatened to tear them apart. This is what I tried to capture here. A proud people, strong, confident, and brave, swept with the bleakness. At the same time I wanted something that would honor my favorite character, Rand. So I blended the two together and this is what I came up with.
